BP4_Slide.com

Slide.com is a simple way to create photo stories. Slide. com lets you use your own photos  and digital media to create and publish a story.  Slide is a user-friendly tool that allows even amateur web users to upload photos and create a project. This free web 2.0 software, also allows users to share their video’s easy with Facebook and other social media sites. Users can also add images from Search, Facebook, Friendster, MySpace, Slide, Flickr and Internet Explorer’s image url.  In addition, to adding images you can even customize your slide show design.

The process of creating a slide show is simple. First you select a design, next you add images from one of above image sources, then you add text and customize your design. Finally, you can share your project with friends, family, colleagues and classmates.

Slide is a great tool to use for digital storytelling in any learning environment and at home. In the classroom teachers can use the features of slide.com to allow students to create a photo journal, photo story, or/and visual story through pictures. Slide can be incorporated into different lessons. For example students can upload photos they’ve taken, or upload their illustrations. They can also create a mother’s day or father’s day virtual card via slide.

In addition, to this Slide is a great tool; I can share with educators as they learn ways to integrate technology into the classroom.

I enjoyed creating my family photo project, which literary only took me 5 – 10 minutes to create.

  1. Kwasida,

Thank you for this post. I am always looking for ways to create slide shows and stories with the photos that I collect. I get tired of using power point all the time and iMovie is sometimes too elaborate for what I want to do. Slide.com seems to be the perfect balance - easy to use, easy to publish, and has a user interface similar to other programs that have been used before. With the ability to create Mother's day or Father's day virtual cards, there may be no need for Hallmark or eCards.

Since I love taking pictures and fancy myself an amateur video director, I think this will be a great tool for me to use to create family documentaries. It will also be useful when documenting the events of my mentoring group. Thanks for the info.

  2. Kwasida,
I appreciate your description of the Slide.com tool. It seems like an easy tool to use for creating and sharing different kinds of slide shows.

One question I have is, do you think that one can use it in the place of PowerPoint or Keynote? Does it allow for the user to create custom backgrounds, and to choose different fonts for the text portions of the project? How do you think it could be best used in a classroom setting? Can you make an entire history lesson (for example) using Slide.com, or do you think it is better for supplementary information and photos? Thanks for your help. Ari

  3. Thanks Kevin and Ari for your feedback. @Kevin slide.com is a great tool for creating family documentaries. It's wonderful especially since you enjoy photography. It a easy and quick method to share pictures.
@ Ari I like Slide.com, but I don't think it will replace PowerPoint or Keynote. It's a very basic tool that allows you to upload images, create various backgrounds and fonts. PowerPoint and Keynote have a lot more features.
